'Open by Appointment' ~ Suellen Saidee Cook ~ I recently read one of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories - 'The Cat that Walked by Himself'. It tells the story of how cats came to be domesticated, that is, as domesticated as cats would ever allow themselves to be. It makes a lot of sense about why cats are the way they are, seemingly aloof and slightly arrogant, but those of us who know cats would not really think that for one minute! To us, they are clever, cunning, lovable, endearing but still very much their own cat. Cats without doubt, Walk by Themselves. It got me thinking, though, about modern day domestic cats and the sorts of things they might find desirable, if he or she were to have their own home. Any self respecting cat (which they pretty much all are) is likely to have accouterments that provide for a most luxurious lifestyle. I think we would find mostly treasures that have something, even loosely, to do with comfort and contentment and are highly prized by connoisseur felines. Such delicacies of life will of course meet their discerning needs during those long waking hours. |
